A friend of mine has 5 labradors and those that can have regularly donated to the Pet Blood Bank. She recently shared a post on FB that I popped onto our own page.
In fact, it was Elaine who first introduced me to The Old Place, though she wasn't an active member.

None of us know when our dog may need the support of a blood donation, just like in the human world.
If you and your dog can donate, please think about it.
I know this is the link for the UK, but there are equivalent in other countries, and it would be nice if you live elsewhere for you to add your own link.
Better still, donate.

NHS Blood Donation

Unfortunately Lilly can't donate due to weight/health problems, and Oreo is under 25kg.
I used to be a blood donor myself until I required a transfusion for a post partum haemorrhage. Thank you to those that were there to support me.

If you guys have given before and lapsed or never given before, and are able, now is a good time to think about signing up.
😊

Sadly after several goes at giving blood, the Blood Transfusion Service said I was not suitable - they struggled to find a vein, when they did the flow was so slow, then it left me with a very painful and bruised arm. I was disappointed but F has regularly given for many many years so he does his bit.
I will look into Red giving.

Bramble gives blood regularly.

The dogs do need to have a very calm temperament, and be comfortable lying very still on the table.
Bramble loves choosing a toy from their vast selection and of course the WHOLE tin of dog food they get afterwards! :inlove:

This is really useful to hear, thank you. I’m thinking of it for Kipper but am wary about behaviour. I’ll give it a bit longer for him to settle just a bit more, and for us to work further on cooperative behavior, and will then give it some serious thought.
I give blood since my sister needed huge transfusions with her babies (now teenagers!), must book another session soon 👍

Oreo would be absolutely perfect for giving blood if she was a little bigger (she’s only 20kg). She’s unbelievably chilled out, she would happily go in and get blood taken on her own (I think this is what they’re doing now with COVID?). Just wish she could do it :(

We're not allowed to give blood over here in Spain or Andorra because we've lived in the UK (either before or after 1990, I forget which) and CJD!
Same in the US. Though to be fair, I've not asked about donating blood since my train accident, so things may have changed.

That's so weird as I always think of Oreo as a big dog, can't believe she's only 20 kg. She must be all long legs and fluff!
