With the board in front of you, so they sit facing you.
Just re reading my post @Atemas -- it's important in the early stages that you mark the moment they are actively looking at the board as they return to you. Hope that makes sense.

Yes it makes sense @Selina27 thank you - will have a go tomorrow. She is keen to get on the board so think she'll get it quickly

Red is loving the ‘round the clock’ game. I have incorporated the ‘stop’ whistle as she’s back on the board and about to sit down

If you look back at this thread @Charlie you will see where @Selina27 has described it

We played ‘round the clock’ without the placeboard but with a stop whistle and hand signal from me. Red adapted straight away. At some point I need to get out there in the countryside and practice the stop whistle. At the moment though F is doing all those walks.
