Plum’s been in the wars.

Thanks for asking.

She had a check up at the vet this afternoon, wound looks clean and healthy (bigger than I realised), she’s a little subdued but I think part of that is the change in her life as I’ve arranged the sofas so she can’t jump up and I know she’s missing our snuggles (me too).
I sat on the floor and she ran her head and face under my neck and rested it there so I could plant kisses along her nose ❤.

Eating, weeing and pooing.
On lead walks for 2 weeks, stitches out in 2 weeks if all goes well.

She whined most of last night, bless her. Hopefully she (and I) will sleep better tonight.

She got home from the dog walker and as she settled down to sleep I noticed what looked like dried blood on her lower chest. Took a closer look and there was a nasty gash, flap of skin hanging down. I felt too squeamish to look too closely but I was pretty sure it would need stitches.

She was her normal self, wasn’t fussed with me trying to get a look but straight to vet and within 5 mins she was straight into surgery.

She’s home now, all stitched up in her medivest with potentially two weeks of restricted exercise 😱.

Vet said it is a nasty wound and in an area where it’s “quite tight” so she has to be really careful not to pull/damage the stitches.

I’ve got her crate back out and she’s in it now, a bit of whining, but ate some tea.

I was so smug after she had a laparoscopic spay a year ago and I didn’t have to contend with the usual post recovery shenanigans!

I don’t drink or smoke and as I’m on a healthy eating plan my usual go-to, chocolate, is out of bounds. I need a vice!
MLF is quite a satisfactory vice, I find. Definitely addictive!

Does anyone have an opinion on the following?

Q1. I cancelled my Petplan insurance as I found the same cover for half the price (although I haven’t yet taken out new cover).
It finishes Tuesday. I’m guessing if I claim for the above incident I should be reimbursed as I will have been covered on the date of the accident?

Q2. Should I continue the (Petplan) cover now that Plum has had this accident in case complications follow? Would Petplan be likely to decline that request if I say she’s had an accident?
Or do I stick with my original plan to take out new insurance with cheaper premiums and take a risk on Plum’s wound healing as it should with no complications?

What would you do?

Umm, I'd probably go super cautious, reinstate petplan if you can for another month, assuming they will let you and will cover you for this injury, (no reason they won't ) and then take out the new plan asap, as i think you probably can't claim within 30 days of a new policy anyway?
