My poor Gizmo, Hugo’s best friend is on his last days and I’m heart broken. He hasn’t been eating much the last few weeks and I thought it was the stress of moving because cats can be finicky… but then I noticed his hips and back legs had lost a lot of muscle. I was hoping it was a thyroid issue. I brought him to the vet for a check up and blood work and the news shocked me. He has a stage 6/6 heart murmur and he has stage 4 kidney disease
So our days with him are limited and sadly there is nothing I can do but keep him comfortable and feed him what ever food he will eat, which is Fancy Feast.
I’m not sure if anyone remembers but five years ago Gizmo almost died at 3 years old from an acute kidney injury. He was diagnosed then with stage 2 kidney disease and I’ve been feeding him a renal diet ever since. Now here we are at 8 years old and his time is limited. I was told it could be days up to a couple months that he has left. So I am hoping for longer of course but we will take what ever we can as long as he is still bright and eating.
That’s probably the hardest part of all this, minus the fact you can feel all his back end bones cuz the muscle is gone, you wouldn’t know otherwise that he is unwell. He looks happy and bright and he’s curious and runs for his fancy feast meals, even eats kibble in between meals, and now that he’s actually eating again he’s back to being playful.
I just feel it’s so unfair, Axel was only 6, Gizmo is only 8. My heart is broken. I truly thought he was invincible.
