We have had a simply horrid morning with Casper. I got up early as usual, let the dogs out the the back, and went to sort the young growers (young chickens) Noticed none of the dogs, not even Bramble had come out. Odd, Bramble LOVES to race down the garden as soon as the back door is open. Didn't think to much of it until I spotted Casper, sort of belly walking towards me in obvious pain and distress. He was barely able to walk and was sort of crouching, licking his lips.
Managed to somehow get him inside, called Marcus and we both took him to the emergency vet. The vet was really lovely, very caring and gentle with Casper. She is not entirely sure what's wrong, but couldn't find anything at this point to suggest anything sinister, but not ruling it out. The most likely candidate is a a back spasm, pinched nerve as he is having trouble walking.
He is comfortable now, on lots of painkillers so quite sleepy. So we are both taking it in turns to watch him. He managed his brekkie, and begged a few crumbs from Marcus's breakfast pain au chocolat. Monitoring for 24 hours then back at the vets...
