Poorly Coco

Have you got a tin of pumpkin.
Yes, thanks Cath. He had a spoon this morning (it might have been butternut squash - it was in the freezer) and I've just given him another spoon from a tin with a spoon of pasta. All gone. He also begged the trimmings from my broccoli soldiers and I let him have the top from my boiled egg,. (He had to share that with Meg, she's feeling left out, she thinks he's getting Treats!)

He's not back his usual self, but he's eating, begging and no longer pacing (that's the worst to see) and he slept through the night (I didn't, I was on edge listening for him - so we've just had a lovely lie in after OH went to work :giggl: )

Thanks for everyone's good wishes. A pooly tum feels trivial, but it's upsetting not being able to help or even comfort them.

He's in bed whining at the moment, and that is perfectly normal! A German Shepherd whine. A whine that usually annoys me, but now I'm glad to hear it. When he's really poorly he's silent.

Lovely to see a pic of Coco and to hear he’s improving. Hopefully he’ll eat something more substantial and make a good poo!

How is Coco this morning Sue @edzbird
I'm afraid he's gone off his food again. Yesterday he had probably half a tin of pumpkin, a of couple of handfuls of pasta, a small tin of tuna & a few bits of kibble. He seemed to enjoy it. Today he won't eat anything. He's been offered his standard breakfast, a sprinkling of grated cheese, some cottage cheese, pumpkin, a bonio biscuit, some beef stock and the top from my boiled egg, but refused eveything. He's still drinking plain water. He does look a bit down. He's not pacing. He'd done 2 small but form pumpkin coloured poos which I was so happy to see, but he won't eat.

The pair of them are currently barking at the window at a removal lorry.

He's just done another nice, solid, pumpkin coloured poo with a blob of blood/jelly - his colon is not healed yet. He must know that it is best to not eat in order to rest his insides. I'll stop trying to force it on him, but I can't leave anything down in case his appetite comes back - greedy Meg already snaffled the bonio he left.
I'll pop out later for some white fish.

Are you giving him a probiotic? When Snowie had HGE, I found that kefir was really good for his gut. But yes, he probably knows what it best: to not eat. Perhaps some bone broth to get in more liquids?

Have you heard of slippery elm? I’ve not used it myself, but others I know swear by it. It lines the gut with a mucus-like layer.

I haven't given him anything yet. He did beg a dried duck strip at lunch time - rather he nicked one I dropped! Then he took a tiny piece of raw broccoli. I'll offer him som yoghurt..
