Poppy is back on antibiotics as well - it's the third episode of bad diarrhea for her in two months. The vet suspects giardia... So the plan is to get them both over this bout of diarrhea and send in poo samples for checking.
Poppy not eating!!!

It was quite shocking how quickly Merlin deteriorated - he had nasty diarrhea over night and this morning, and although he seemed bright and fine in himself I took him in to our vet at 09:00, since we'd had such a fright with Poppy two weeks ago. The vet and I both thought he would be ok without antibiotics, but by the afternoon he was suddenly pooing bloody liquid (sorry to be so graphic) and quite apathetic, so I called the vet and she came out and met me at 15:30 and gave him an antibiotic injection. (He is no better so far, and in fact has just sicked up his breakfast.) At around 6pm OH took Poppy into the woods and said she also has diarrhea with blood, so that's when I called the vet again and took her straight in. She says she'll see them again tomorrow at 11:00 if I think either of them aren't doing ok. I am feeling a bit shaky, and prepared for another difficult night!

Oh no! What a worry! Both dogs ill. I understand that you are shaky.....Thinking of you and Merlin and Poppy! I hope they soon feel well again and that you can get a proper night sleep!

We had a quiet night (I slept downstairs with them) and they both seem much better, thank goodness!! Poppy had a pretty normal poo; no poos yet from Merlin (not surprising as he has had nothing to eat since yesterday breakfast, which he then sicked up undigested in the evening). Both are hungry and have eaten a bit of rice and sensitive stomach wet food. I'm crossing my fingers we are over the worst - of course they both have to have two more lots of antibiotics and then the lab tests on their stools.
I'm on poo collection duty for the next three days. Six little vials of brown stuff!!
