Poppy not eating!!!

They're both a lot better, thank you. Poos pretty much back to normal. Merlin is still rather subdued and with very stinky flatulence. They had their second injections today. We've mostly been in the garden with just a couple of little wanders over to the woods today. Fingers crossed we have a proper night's sleep tonight, I am pretty exhausted!

Merlin is still not quite 100%, but so much better than he was. They both had their third antibiotic injection this morning, and I took in the six poo samples, which showed up - nothing! No worms, no giardia, no other parasites. So presumably it was just a D&V bug (which has been going around). Merlin is still trying to eat grass and soil :(. Any suggestions on how to help get his gut biome back to normal, after the antibiotics?

I give them activia yoghurt, a small cup a day

After antibiotics for Kipper, our vet recommended live natural yoghurt - goat is more gentle than cow I think - and I’ve read that small amounts of ferments like saurkraut can also help restore/increase gut flora.

I like to make my own sauerkraut. Snowie loves it. I used to make my own kefir, too. Homemade ferments apparently have far more bacteria than store bought. But I believe you also need to eat plant fibre for bacteria to eat inside your gut. I wish I could find info on dog gut biomes and whether they have the same bacteria and fibre needs as humans, but I’ve found none. Regardless, Snowie gets lots of veg and fruit. (Although unfortunately he is still so allergic with skin issues. Apparently it all starts with a healthy gut and his allergies say otherwise… 🙁)

You might find this a useful starting point .

Hills Gastrointestinal Food from Hills Prescription diet worked miracles on Flicka. It isn't a forever food, just feed until poos are normal. I also routinely give her Keffir Yoghurt every day but that doesn't sort out the initial problem.
