I've got to say the training pays off. This morning I took my eye off the ball when walking with some dog walking friends and the dreaded cry came "Look out she's crossed the river!". On the other side is a field of pregnant sheep. They were about two or three hundred yards away so not really a concern unless she crosses the river. A really firm recall fortunately had her back looking for a way to cross back - not easy. I walked her down the bank from the opposite side until we found a crossing point and she got back including a verticle scramble up my side of the river.
If there's one thing I'd emphasise getting right it's got to be the recall. So important to keep a dog out of trouble. Phew!
