Primrose Puppy Log

It's 5 days of antibiotics then a re-test of her stool. Both dogs needs to be on the same flea/worm/tick med schedule (which I was planning to do anyway). We have to disinfect everything and bathe her frequently, as it's easy to re-infect herself (from licking paws/bum). I already wash their bowls after eating and when re-filling water, but will be more vigilant. Quinn tested negative, but will also bathe her. I'm reading about trying to clean up our yard and it doesn't seem possible...

@Sophiedoodle I'm not sure - I'm picking the meds up this afternoon and I'll check. Is this something you see often in puppies? I'm assuming we cannot attend puppy class for quite awhile :(

Oh no, that's upsetting for you, but I'd take some comfort in the fact that she seems quite well in herself aside from the pooing problems ( when Monty was at his worst the vet said it was a bit touch and go for him and he ended up on a drip twice). So she's probably got a pretty robust constitution if she's still nice and active.

I posted what we had to in terms of cleaning and disinfecting over on the thread @MrChew has, so I won't bore people by repeating it again, but we did disinfect our hard outside areas with a broom and Jeyes fluid, the crate, beds, floors, skirting boards, literally everything we could. And then repeat ten days later. That got rid of it. Yes, and Panacur too alongside the antibiotics.

Oh no, I'm sorry to see this. 🙁

My first Rottweiler had Giardia, right when I got him at 8 weeks. The breeder was super careful, but sometimes it happens. In Duncan's case the vet guessed the only way he could have gotten it was from bird droppings for the times the puppies were let outside in their ex-pen. The breeder was absolutely devastated.

It sounds like your vet has caught it early, which is really good. You would be anyway, but do be vigilant if she seems to be sleeping a lot more or just lethargic. Duncan almost died from it. It's scary.

So she's clearly got a robust constitution!
She's now the biggest puppy in the entire litter of 11, including the biggest boy! I'll take a look at that thread.

@Emily_Babbelhund I'm debating on telling the breeder since she's been here two weeks, and could easily have picked it up by eating junk/rabbit poo in our yard - not to mention Quinn may have tracked it in from her walks even though I've been wiping her paws.

Bird poo and mucky water seem to be the biggest culprits, from memory, but as it does hang around then it could have come from almost anywhere, as you say.

If the breeder is in touch with the other owners, then it would be worth telling them to pass the info on... Just in case the other pups are having similar symptoms and they think it's just puppy tummy.

As @Emily_Babbelhund said, just keep an eye out. Monty has only ever refused food three times, I think in seven years. Two of those times it was giardia.

It's so tough with two dogs. Try not to worry about how she got it, just getting better.

I agree with this. I didn't Duncan help early because I thought he was just a very quiet puppy. It was another more savvy puppy family who told the breeder when their pup tested positive for giardia, then the breeder called me and asked about Duncan's routine. I just thought he liked to sleep. Nope, he was already sick. It's unlikely to be the case with Primrose as you've already had her for two weeks, but you never know. You could help someone else by alerting the breeder.
