Had a bit of a 'oh my' moment last night. My elderly dad comes over on Monday nights and, like he is with everyone', Maxx normally goes mental and wants to greet/eat/knock him over with joy. So we always have him behind baby gates. When Dad arrived Maxx just sat on the mat behind the gate quietly rather than leaping around. hmmm. Tired? Not sure. Dad doesn't like dogs but he says he likes Maxx but, understandably, he is 92 and if we waved a tooth near his hand his thin skin will break (this happened with our old dog and Dad was 18 years younger!)
OH let Maxx out and I said 'what are you doing?'. 'Just watch' he said. Maxx calmly walked over to Dad who kind of reared back a bit but Maxx just sniffed his knee and I called him over and he came to me and sat on the rug at my feet. He kept looking at Dad but did not go near him. WHAT? Who are you and what have you done with crazy-pants Maxx?
I think he knows somehow that Dad has to be treated gently. Or he is growing up. He did his usual naughty things; grabbed OH's jumper from the couch, stole the dishcloth from the kitchen and pranced around the loungeroom with it, tried to take my slipper off my foot - so he was feeling normal. I just hope it was progress
