Question re gundog whistles

We bought the recommended gundog whistles (two, one each) that are in the Total Recall book. We bought the exact pitch that Pippa recommended. They were nearly $50 delivered so not cheap but I'm worried we've been sold a dud. They hardly make a sound! So is it a pitch thing that the dog can hear but not so much the human? I just can't imagine he will ever hear it from 100m or something

Thanks...I think we were put off by the instruction in the book 'gently blow pip pip pip pip pip'. So we were very tentative. They are acme brand and tonight we put our back into it a bit more and they were louder so it's all a learning experience

That is terribly expensive - they are a dime a dozen normally. Well, almost. You'd be better off buying them off amazon.co.uk and paying for the delivery.

WOW! That is expensive!

I can look back at videos and find one where I am using the recall whistle if you like to compare :)

I didn't buy an acme one, just a cheap ebay version, couple of pounds at most, i bough t 2 or 3. Works perfectly well as long as you don't blow too gently. It even worked when monts got hold of it and covered it in teeth marks ?

David and I use Acme 211.5 from Amazon for around £6.00. My dogs have no problem whatsoever hearing that pitch. Don't forget a dogs hearing is far more acute than ours.

Really sorry you had to pay so much :( Any one of us would have bought and sent them to you. Remember to ask in future it's not a problem :) x

Crikey! Oh well, learning experience! We looked on heaps of websites and that was the cheapest we could find. Thanks so much for all of your helpful advice. If we decide to get some more I'll be in touch for sure!

I will have lots of questions about recall, so thanks in advance for your help with that too :)
