Any suggestions for the quietest/ least visited beaches in west Wales? We will be stopping in Dolgellau, so anywhere either north or south with a 90 minute drive ( though sometimes 90 minutes on a Welsh road doesn't actually get you that far! ) just trying to find bear somewhere he can be off lead for a little while. Thanks!

I would usually recommend Ynys Las on the southside of the Dovey Estuary. It's our go to sea side from here. You can drive onto the sand and walk through the dunes to the beach, or round the headland.
It's normally quiet, but this is no normal summer and bank holiday to boot. So I can't guarantee it !! I should think it's within 90 minutes from Dolgellau but can't be sure.

Natural Resources Wales / Dyfi National Nature Reserve - Ynyslas Visitor Centre, near Aberystwyth
Ynyslas is part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve, situated midway between Aberystwyth and Machynlleth. Ynyslas sand dunes are the largest in Ceredigion and the estuary. Ynyslas Visitor Centre is open Easter until the end of September

Brilliant thanks @Selina27 ! So on parking up do you suggest we just head north towards the estuary? It's only 45 to 50 mins from Dolgellau so perfect.

Yes, you basically just drive up the road until you are literally on the sand. Coming from the north you will turn right on a left hand bend in the road and pass a couple of caravan sites.

As I said it's where everyone here goes for a day by the sea. I guess it's got the facilities you'd expect of a seaside town. I can't make any recommendations though as we don't usually stop there

I have walked from Borth to Ynyslas hundreds of years ago, with my very first boyfriend who I met in Borth, I was sweet 16. I would think Borth isn't so nice now, Ynyslas was very quiet then and hopefully is now.

Yes @Natalie that's it. Yes you can walk along the estuary and round to the beach and there is a path through the dunes, it will become clear once you are there. Of course, it will depend on the tides but I've never been there when you can't park on the estuary.. The access to the sea is really good the whole length of the way from Borth really. Searivers, yes, that's the one with the (small) cafe I'm sure.
