Rally at Haxey

Molly and I are at a two-day Rally competition at Haxey (in North Lincolnshire). Today we scored 195 in Level 2 which is known as an 'excellent' score and means we now have our Rally L2 Excellent title (we had 2 previous L2 excellent scores form 2019 - you need three under different judges). It wasn't good enough to win a rosette -we were 7th - and actually I do think the judge was quite generous. The winners were truly outstanding. In Level 3 we only managed 184 which is known as a qualifying score (you need 6 qualifying scores to go up a level), but again I was quite surprised to achieve that. Molly just wasn't into it today - I think she was tired and feeling the heat (though she had the energy to instigate tuggy on our walk!) It was cloudy but humid, and the rings were outside with grass that seemed to have some attractive smells!
I enjoyed the day despite lack of competition success. The Rally crowd are very friendly and supportive and they all seem to adopt reward-based training methods. The setting was lovely - right out in the country with a private wood where you could walk your dog off-lead, and space to park in the shade of trees.
Tomorrow I am going to try to do my L3 class first (they are running at the same time and you select a place in the running order based on first come, first served). I am allowed to do L2 as I have already entered but I might skip it - I'll see how Molly is feeling.

Sounds like a very good day. Hope Molly is refreshed today. It was very humid yesterday - particularly the afternoon and the thunderstorms forecast didn’t happen

Even though you didn't get a rosette you do have the achievement of your Excellent title which must be very satisfying for you. It seems like Molly was having an "off day", but it sounds to me she still did well.
I'm glad you are able to get to some competitions now, it sounds like the ideal setting.

Today we did much better and came 3rd in Level 3. I was delighted as Molly performed to her best and I didn't make any mistakes in reading the signs (I think I omitted to mention yesterday that I turned in the wrong direction at one sign! :wasntme:)
Here she is back at the Travelodge tucking into a roast beef kong with carrot for dessert.

Going to put our paws up for an hour and then I'm thinking of driving over to Cleethorpes to go on the beach.

Nice work! It’s definitely hard in the heat! What breeds do you see most in rally competitions? When I did some rally with Quinn there seemed to be a lot of Australian Shepherds- very smart and focused!

The nice thing is that there is a really wide variety of breeds in rally in the UK, as well as crossbreeds (whereas in competitive obedience it's almost all collies with a smattering of Golden Retrievers and German Shepherds.) At this show one competitor who won many classes had a pack of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. The winner of today's L3 class was a fantastic Golden Retriever. Someone with a Leonberger also did very well. There was even a gorgeous Basset Hound who walked along all waggly and looking up at his mum with such devotion. Rally people do train seriously but all the dogs are primarily pets.
