Remembering Thomas

I dont know the date of his passing but today is the day, twelve years ago that Paul came in carrying a tiny kitten , a present for me . I hadnt asked for a kitten so this was a huge surprise, a jet black ball of fluff we named Thomas . Oh boy, he was a livewire , favourite trick being to climb up the curtains and teeter along the pole, he entertained us and we adored him as did our dogs .
When Thomas was about eleven months old, he went missing . We searched all over , put an appeal on local radio and contacted all the Vets in our area, finally having to accept that he was gone .
Out of the blue we had a call from a council worker in Exeter to say that she was terribly sorry but Thomas had been found dead on the road . We asked when we would be able to collect his body but he had already been ` disposed ` . Someone , on discovering his microchip was supposed to have rung us, but somehow the call had been overlooked until now when it was too late , she was most apologetic but it left us heartbroken . Why Exeter ? We can only think that he had climbed into a vehicle and ended up there and when discovered , had been let out whereupon he roamed until the fateful day he met his end on the roads .
This photo is of him on the bench in our garden , his name is on the back of it now xxx
