He has been unsettled today , possibly tummy ache and he is rather ( for him ) quiet . His usual demeaner is a happy go lucky soft silly boy . I started his special diet today , thankfully he loves cottage cheese and eggs so no protests xx

He isnt taking any other medication , just the omeprazole but the black poo started well before he started taking omeprazole so it cant be that xx

I was with a friend this morning and he was saying one of his Labs ate sheep poo and had black poo, it just came up in conversation and made me wonder, but I guess you are not in sheep country?

Mainly deer where we walk but thankfully , Reuben does not eat the poo xx

I finally managed to get a poo sample when Reubs had been on the diet for five days and Sue rang me this morning . The good news is that it now looks normal with no trace of blood , bacteria or parasites . The advice is to now stop the omeprazole and watch him closely . If the black poo returns he will have to go onto a hydrolized diet for six weeks which will indicate if there is an allergy to his current diet . The next step would be an endoscopy but Sue tends to think that he has either an ulcer or inflammatory bowel disease causing irritation hence the blood . However , he is much better in himself now and so we keep fingers crossed that he continues to do well xxx
