Unfortunately I cant post a photo of him because in my stupidity , I refreshed my ailing laptop and whilst all my photos are safe and saved , I cant download others, yet !
However , the boy is doing good ! He really is a smashing puppy , now in his sixth month , still lanky and gangly , ears still huge but I adore him ! His recall is sharp , he comes to voice , whistle and also hand signals at a distance . His Sit/Stay is pretty good too , but his jumping up is definitely a work in progress, his sticking point despite me trying every possible way to curb it . I find that the more " dog savvy " people I meet, who ignore his advances promote the more rapid response as he doesn't get enjoyment from being ignored whilst those who respond by waving arms or laughing , are on a hiding to nothing ! He seems to love absolutely everyone and everything , dogs, people , little people, leaves and water, how he loves water with a passion . In the house he is calm , he and Nelly have the odd play but I think he senses that at times she isn't too good , and so he will leave her be , sadly her eyesight is now not good so I guess she has her own assistance dog in Reuben . Fingers crossed as I say that he doesn't seem to be destructive ( so far ! ) but oh how he adores gardening , scarifying the lawn a treat and pruning . His pastime is watching the masses of frogs in our wildlife pond , he isn't interested in trying to catch them, just watching with fascination . I don't use a harness any more , only in the car as it attaches to the car seat belt but he walks better on a collar and lead . He is a very confident little lad , but sometimes cautious as this morning when he saw someone with an umbrella , he didn't like that at all . We called in at the Vets yesterday , they encourage owners to pop in from time to time , Reuben loves this , especially as he gets treats , we weighed him , he was 24 kilos , he really is a skinny Minnie , but Vet is happy with him even though he looks like a colt !
I don't mind admitting that its been hard work , I had forgotten how much hard work pups are and no doubt will continue to be , but I don't regret a single second , he brings joy xx
