Oh dear, more sad news I'm afraid. Thiseve5ning I have had a message from Sam, my lovely nephew in Canada. Today he and his partner, Sarah have had to make the decision to have their lovely girl Gracie, the blended Basset pts.
Sarah is the manager of an animal rescue centre in North Vancouver. Gracie came to them a few years ago, very frightened and mistrustful of people and other dogs. She didn't settle at all well in the rescue centre and no attempt at re-homing was successful until Sarah took her home with her. She and Sam put lots of work in with her and eventually she came to trust them and most other human visitors to their home.(When I visited in 2023 she lay on her back on the sofa, her head on my lap, making happy dog grunty noises.) However she remained wary of most men (she loved Sam) and they eventually gave up on walking her beyond the garden as she was so reactive to other dogs. They have a large garden though, which she clearly felt happy and safe in.
She has been gradually going downhill for a few weeks now, kidney failure had set in, and in the end they had to do what they had been dreading for some time.

At least she had a few years of feeling safe and loved by two good people in a happy place.
Run free over the Rainbow Bridge, gorgeous Gracie, and lots of love to your two grieving hoomans.
