Say Hi to Sheba!

No…not mine, UNFORTUNATELY! We are dog sitting for friends this weekend. She is a lovely Lab, around 4, I think. When she’s at home they’ve rigged up their back door so she can ring the doorbell to come in once she’s done her business outside. It’s so cute.
At any rate you can see she has the Labrador stare down pat although we’ve been given strict “no human food” instructions….
I’ll send a couple more pics later.

@Lisa how lovely for you to have Sheba to stay! She looks adorable and so much a typical Lab. I love the bell ringing thing - I guess it saves lingering about at an open doorway in chilly Canada!

We’ve had lovely walks and cuddles. Her owners are coming home later today. It’s been nice having her, she is really a lovely dog and no trouble at all.

I think she enjoyed her weekend with us! It was nice to have her. They do have others who look after her when they go places they can’t take her but we might be able to dog sit for her again some time.

Did Sheba settle in straight away? Just worried that when I die, Flicka will have to be rehomed and it does worry me about how she will feel.

No unfortunately, she has two old dogs and works 6 hours a day and has a very cold house! I thought she wouldn't be working still but has to go on until she is 67. One of the dogs from Romania has Brucellosis Canis, so she cannot go there after all.

…..but presumably your daughter would find a loving home for Flicka? (sorry @Lisa high jacking your thread. Bet you are missing Sheba)

If anything happens to us, my daughter will take Red - she couldn’t keep her as she has a greyhound who is used to being the dog of the house - but she will ensure a loving home is found for Red and keep the link with her. This is very reassuring.

This is worth knowing too

‘The Dogs Trust Canine Care Card , gives the charity the opportunity to rehome pets when a dog owner dies. If it can't find a new owner, the charity says it never puts healthy unwanted dogs down and will look after them for the rest of their lives’.

Honestly Sheba had no trouble! She settled in like she had always been there. Probably how each dog reacts depends on their temperament. I think Simba was fairly chill in some ways but was always a bit nervous in a new spot.
