Slightly concerned about Poppy

Yes, the photo does show she isn't quite right, could she be in any pain? Maybe a combination of all the things you mentioned in your post? If she stops eating then I would take her to the vet, I notice at the moment she is keen to have some of the sandwich so that is good news.

I’ve heard rabies vacs can have a particularly negative effect. Can you consult a vet to find out about anything to support her liver?

Did she have the rabies vaccine last year this time, coinciding with the last seizure?

Does she have to have the vaccination? Many countries are adopting the new protocol to give fewer vaccinations.

She did not have the rabies vaccine this time last year @M.F., because we only have to give it every two years. But yes, she does have to have the vaccination if we want to travel (as per EU/UK law), or compete, or train anywhere. The vaccination may be one of the triggers for her, of course, but it wasn't the trigger for the seizure episode last year.

I have to add - we got home yesterday evening and sat out in the garden drinking a cup of tea, musing about what could be up with our Pops, who was lying at our feet with Merly.

A squirrel ran down a tree at the bottom of the garden and started scampering around the compost heap. Before Merlin had even got to his feet, a small yellow exocet missile had traversed the garden at high speed. She almost got that squirrel...

OH and I looked at each other and just shook our heads. She is and always has been an enigma. Who knows, maybe she really was just pissed off that I wasn't training with her???

Update - I think we've worked it out!!

I was cuddling on the couch with Poppy yesterday evening, and suddenly felt a large hard lump on her side, sort of egg-sized. You know how your blood runs cold in those moments? Within 30 seconds the full scenario had run through my head, with a dreadful diagnosis, a horrible few months and a tragic end... :'( Then I realized the lump was at the site of the rabies vaccination. Phew... :whew:

Poor Pops. She almost certainly was feeling under the weather on Sunday as a reaction to the rabies vaccination (@M.F. - you were right, I think!). I thought we'd left enough time between the vaccination and the training day (five days), but another time I must remember to leave a full week, at least. Now we feel like bad doggie owners...

She does seem much better now, was running around like a loon on our morning walk...

Glad to hear you seem to have gotten to the bottom of it. Out of all my dogs only my two Clumbers have ever had a rabies vaccination for their pet passports and it knocked it out of both of them for a while.

Oh, that sounds like good news! All my animals (ferrets and dogs) need(ed) to have yearly rabies vaccinations by law, and we've only had one reaction at the site of the injection like that. I've never noticed it affecting them in any other way than that single swelling, but I have heard it can happen. Poor Pops feeling under the weather, but at least it appears nothing sinister, which is good news :)

This is me. Always

So glad to hear that you've managed to get to the bottom of it. I've heard that the rabies vaccination is nasty but I suppose it's much better than the alternative.
