Snuggling then VS now...

Remember when your dog was a puppy and wanted nothing to do with being handled? Maybe not...but I do. Aspen was a demon when it came to being held. He would bite, grumble, and fight you. He didn't like being pet at all. Well yesterday I got a memory notification from photos I took a year ago and this is a photo I had with Aspen from last August

which is sooo funny to me because I took this photo just the other day

Now he's the biggest baby and loves snuggles. Do you guys remember when your dogs were little squirmy worms that hated being held/pet?

Aah, I love his cuddly face. I don't remember mine being squirmy, but maybe I didn't cuddle them

@Jelinga, Aspen could not stay still. When we brought him for his first vet appt. with our new doc as a puppy he told us that we had to work on training him to enjoy being held...we didn't, because his tactics for teaching that seemed questionable, but Aspen turned out just fine, luckily

@alschwahn, I could see he was a wriggly pot from the first photo I am pleased you ignored vet's advice, could have made things worse.

I'm glad you posted this, thanks @alschwahn, as I see lots of pics of you all with a dog snuggled in your lap. I was a bit sad because Maxx loves to be tickled but not so much cuddled so hopefully that will change with age....

Willow has never been cuddly. Shadow has always been. Squidge just sits down wherever she wants to, regardless of who is underneath her

@Lab_adore, no worries, I felt the same exact way! You are exactly right, it comes with age, but like Snowbunny mentioned, some dogs just don't have it. Aspen didn't start snuggling until he was almost a year old. We still think its amazing each time he decides to snuggle with one of us, so I understand how you feel!

Quinn was the opposite, so cuddly as a puppy and would sleep on our laps. As an older puppy and now adult, no cuddles and not a fan of being pet! She’ll take a bum scratch on her own time but that’s about it!
