Time has flown since we first went to meet Reuben , now only twelve days to go ! I`m feeling excited and sick with nerves , which is ridiculous really as I have cared for many pups over the years . There is also a little sadness in there , as collecting Reuben will fall in the same week as the first sad anniversary of Sams death , so emotions are all over the place .
I met a friend today , not seen him for some months , and told him about Reuben , " What a lovely replacement " he said . I didn't reply , didn't trust myself to be polite to what I`m sure was just an ill thought out comment .
We will love our Sam for the rest of our lives , Reuben will be whatever he is , his own dog !
So its a sort of calm before the storm , time for contemplation too , and also a time to be positive , quite frankly it is going to give me back some focus ! I`ve said before that Nelly is Pauls dog , through and through , she is devoted to him , she will not be left out , she wouldn't let us ! xx

This is such an exciting time Kate, but also bound to be full of mixed feelings - particularly in light of Sam's anniversary coming up. Plus all those 'eek!' thoughts about sleepless nights, housetraining, crocopups etc. etc. And people do say the most thoughtless things sometimes don't they? But your reaction was dignified and your friend will hopefully think twice in future.
You know that everyone doggy will be saying 'get some sleep!' - but also give yourself space to grieve for Sam. Sometimes timings just collide through happenstance and you simply have to keep paddling and ride the wave xxx

What a jumble of emotions with Sam's anniversary falling at the same time. Maybe this is fate's - or Sam's?? - way of making sure you have something joyful to boost you during what otherwise would be a sad time.

Let the Reuben final countdown begin!
