SUV/4wheel drive

Isn't the gold standard of car crates the custom built and fitted ones? I remember this conversation on the other forum. Julie T had an amazing set-up, and I'm pretty sure @SteffiS had something similar? You could contact the South Australia police and find out who installs the crates for their dog teams.

Yes sure it is to have a fully fitted one. Problem for us is we also need the boot space , so having a crate permanently is not an option for us. Did ask a mate who is a Police officer and theirs are custom fitted.

Do like that set up from @snowbunny but need a van. That wont be happening....

I had my crash tested crate custom built by Lintran to fit our VW Passat estate. It is a removable crate but is in the car most of the time. I can lift it in and out reasonably easily on my own.
Now of course I'm wishing it had a divider as, currently, I can't risk putting Ripple and Toffee in together, although I assume that will come in time.

I am resurrecting this thread as I am looking to get a fitted crate for my new car when, hopefully for when I get it.

I am undecided between the TransK9 and the Lintran, as I see both are good and crash tested.
My only concern is that I believe the Lintran is not made of metal... is this right @SteffiS ? How do you find it? I also prefer the look of the Lintran crate better as it is more "open" and likely easier for Lilly to get into (Oreo would have no problem jumping in either). I do however, like the escape hatch in the back of the TransK9...
Ahhhh what to do, what to do?!?!

I’ve only ever used a Lintran crate so I can’t compare it to anything, but I’ve found it very good. No it’s not metal, but it’s very durable and Ripple has never managed to eat it.
I had mine customised slightly to suit my requirements, and an escape hatch is one of the optional extras.

I have had both crates - Lintran and TransK9. I prefer the TransK9 by far. But the Lintran is lighter. So if you have to get the box out of the car often then that is an advantage.

Looking at the website I’d probably opt for the TransK9 if I was buying again, although I do appreciate the lighter weight of the Lintran as we do take the box out of the car quite often.

Probably because I have put it to the ultimate test. My TransK9 box was just 3 weeks old when I was involved in a head on collision with a big van. My Defender was a total write off. I had four dogs with me at the time, two in each compartment. The dogs were totally unharmed in the crash. Those boxes are build like tanks. In comparison the Lintran boxes appear flimsy. The after care offered by TransK9 was also second to none. I informed them of the accident and they provided me with a letter for the insurance advising that the box should be replaced by a new box after such a serious accident even though there was hardly a mark on it. But they apply the same principle as one would with a riding hat that has taken a sharp knock after a fall and ought to be replaced. The insurance didn’t quibble and paid up in full. TransK9 boxes also hold their value better than Lintran boxes if you ever decide to sell it again.
