I wondered that, but wouldn't you expect to see some damage to the skin too? It's just pink and smooth, and not even tender (I don't think...unless he's being ultra-stoical...).

Have you smelt it? I guess if it was a burn you’d definitely smell something. The main thing is that Captain Pongo’s okay - it’s just such a mystery!

Shadow has done similar, but on a much smaller scale, just running through the woods. He gets the same "plucked" look. Nowhere near as large as this, though.

OK - I showed that photo to the woman who sits next to me in choir at rehearsal tonight, who just happens to be a vet. She said the only thing she could think of was that he'd run into something really sticky, then pulled away and left his fur behind.... just like @Shaz82 suggested.

So that's official.... Pongo has been waxing his legs. Vain boy.
