The Ballad of Maja and Carbón

Oh Maja! You are a good friend, Emily. But the apartment time out is reassuring as you say - don’t hold back on getting some respite!
Well, Maja’s ML is a wonderful friend and I’m glad I can be the part of her holiday where she doesn’t have to worry about her dog. Buuuuut, I’d also have probably waved the white flag by now if I had an out. 😆

I’m going to use the apartment more next week, it seems to work for all of us. 😊

On a weird note, I am finding her very interesting and as an introvert myself, feel almost a kinship with how she reacts to stimuli vs time alone. It’s like seeing my own worst traits played out by a teeny furry little actor. Karma? 😬🥴😂

Only two nights left to go with little Maja - we may all survive after all! 😉

A couple days ago, I thought they were doing better , Carbón even daring to be on the bed at the same time as Maja. I was taking a video to send to Maja’s ML, when Maja went for Carbón (he had a toy that she wanted) and he shouted back and whacked her with his paw. It was all fairly mild, but little miss was VERY put out and has been on the rampage since. This girl can hold a grudge!

So I don’t think we’ll be achieving peace and tranquility before she leaves, but we do have a rhythm and Maja also knows to go to her carrier for a 5 minute circuit breaker time out. I joked to her ML that it’s the only thing she knows in English: “You’re being a little monster, go to your box!”

She’s also learned to ride in her sling carrier happily, which seems to calm her down vs actually walking which amps her up. Of course she still walks 80% of the walk, but when she’s in the carrier we can all relax a bit and enjoy it more.

Last night it was chilly, so Carbón laid on top of me on the sofa, and I covered both of us with a blanket. In comes Maja and jumps up on the big ‘pillow’ on my lap and settles right in. When it was time to get up, I uncovered his head and asked him if he wanted to go for his evening walk, which resulted in a tail wag.

Maja was so shocked to see she’d been sleeping on her ‘enemy’ that she jumped up and bit him on his tail! 🙄

At this point, Carbón doesn’t react much and just got off the sofa, but I was just kind of baffled: How could she not know she was lying on top of Carbón?

It’s sure going to seem peaceful after she goes back home. 😅

Here’s Maja curiously watching her new pillow breathe.

The end is in sight 😊 You and Carbon have been so noble to have Maja to stay! Sad though that Maja couldn't be more civilised as you and her ML are friends and the four of you could have had some pleasant times together.
Oh we’ll still have pleasant times together in the future and I would keep her again if she needed someone to bunk with. It’s been a bit of a headache for sure, but we’re all still alive and kicking. Plus Maja MAY mellow out as she gets older. 🤪

It would have been lovely if she was a more typical chihuahua - can’t deny it - but we didn’t get that and Carbón has done a great job dealing. I’m really proud of him. ☺

Merlin says to tell Carbon he feels his pain. He is very, very dubious about Chihuahuas. In fact to be honest they scare the bejeezus out of him... Which is quite funny since he weighs nearly 40 kg and could probably kill a chi just by stepping on it, but there is something about the Chi energy that stops him in his tracks and literally leaves him shaking. :wasntme:

There's one Chihuauhua that lives near us that fixes Merly with a Death Stare whenever we see it. Poor Merls... he doesn't know what to do, and usually just ends up staring into space while the Chi sniffs and growls and gives him grief. To be fair, it is quite a large, feisty little dog, but it is still TINY compared to Merlin...

They think they are the size of mastiffs, which makes sense really: if they knew how small and vulnerable they really are, they’d never be able to get out from under the duvet! I think that’s one thing I really admire about the breed. It takes a lot of cojones to ignore that you’re constantly one human (or dog) footstep away from being mooshed to death.

So poor Merly, but he can take heart that the Death Stare comes from thousands of years of chihuahua survival evolution. None of us can compete! 😉

Maddie is clearly ignoring bad behaviour. Carbón looks like he's saying 'She's nothing to do with me whatsoever!'
You figured it out 100%! 😂

Maddie is a cool dog. One of legal assistants found her as a tiny puppy in a box on a beach in Croatia while she was on holiday. She’s been the adored office dog ever since, with a cushy set up in her human’s office. She has free rein of the office and greets everyone enthusiastically. Carbón loves her and goes into zoomie mode whenever she’s ‘working’.

She tried to politely greet Maja and when that didn’t work, as you said, Maddie just ignored her.

Carbón is laying in that position because he’s waiting for my lawyer to come down the hall. He LUUUUURVES Herr Janson. He will actually try to climb in his lap, which is a little embarrassing, but the love fest seems mutual and I’ve stopped trying to break it up!

Well that’s all she wrote! Maja has been delivered safe and sound back to her adoring ML who arrived back from the US today. She had a wonderful trip visiting her exchange host family - it was 30 years ago that she lived with them and still refers to them as her second mom and dad and her sister and brother. That’s pretty amazing.

Maja was overjoyed to see her ML and all is now right with the world. Her parting gift to me was a massive wee on the floor where I’ve been giving her dinner as soon as she saw me set her carrier by the door.

For his part, Carbón practically pranced and pirouetted for his first solo walk, and had massive zoomies once back home, taking all his stuffies out and tossing them around. Then he went to bed early just because he could.

I don’t think he regrets being an only dog anymore. 😉

Now just one more day of frantic packing and cleaning, and we are saying auf wiederschauen to Regensburg.

Cornbeefwall is getting closer, amigos. :monkey:
