The danger with grass seeds, foxtails.... and your dog

We have just got back from the vet, having taken Bramble in this morning. Her symptoms came on quite suddenly, in pain, shaking her head, and hiding in a corner. Obviously very uncomfortable. I had a look in her ears, and couldn't see a thing.

Anyhow, we took her straight to the vets. It took one look with an otoscope ( special torch for ears) to spot a foreign body, looks like a foxtail, embedded deep in her ear canal, right by the eardrum. It was difficult to see how much damage has been done, or if we are very lucky none at all.

Now I thought we had been very careful, in checking their coats, eyes, ears and mouth when we have been near long, dry grass, but obviously not careful enough.
Bramble is in surgery now, and fingers crossed we get some good news and she can come home.

Worth having a read...

Thanks for sharing the link @Beanwood and really hope Bramble has no damage - paws and everything crossed.
I'll be checking Kipper extra-thoroughly from now on having read your post x

Oh lord poor Bramble. Hoping there is no damage and she will be OK. Don't know what a foxtail is. Hattie & Charlie have had surgery to remove grass seeds. Charlie in his ear (7 seeds) and Hattie in her paw, they are very dangerous and shouldn't be ignored. Hugs to you, Bramble and the rest of the Beanwood pack xxxxx

Yes madam is home! :) Just a bit sleepy, but back to her normal self in all respects. So relieved! Ears are fine, no damage, and she only needed a bit of sedation. Lots of lovely compliments regarding her health, and lovely temperament :)
