Argh that construction zone is soooo annoying!! How long will that go on for?
It was supposed to be done by now. My guess, seeing the state it's all in, is that they will aim to finish by Christmas. The jackhammers started at 7am. Luckily they are placing the cobblestones, so not always jackhammering. At least today I can get out the front door. There will be a point where they are actually working on the area immediately in front of the door and I won't be able to step outside for part of the day.

I was disappointed not being able to bring my things from storage in as I was actually going to decorate for Christmas for the first time in ages. However I've had time to adjust to it all and think I'll just go buy some cheap lights and maybe a nice fresh wreath to put in my window. That will be cheery, too. Even if I can't get my car in until Christmas, that week I should be able to bring in my stuff from storage and re-organize it in plenty of time for my trip to Cornwall on January 1st. The only bummer is to keep wearing the same three shirts I've been wearing for three months...but it doesn't really matter. Before my Seasalt addiction, I only ever had about three shirts. 😉

The construction outside my apartment today turned interesting in that tonight when I tried to go out, I found that I am fenced in. I tried to budge the end fences, but aside from kicking down a whole section...we're stuck. No walk for Señor Carbon tonight!

I'll have to have a chat with the workmen tomorrow morning. They were a bit jerk-ish because they saw me go in and out of the apartment plus they can see into our window, so they know someone lives here.

Sorry for the blurry bits!

How infuriating, common sense is lacking! Perhaps they thought you could climb over the barrier! Perhaps leave little whoopsies for them to clear up :giggle:

Nice secure outdoor space for the señor though :mmm:
I know! I tried to get him to run around and play because, hey...free enclosed 'garden'! But he was too freaked out because normally that is a busy street and I'm very careful that he can't just walk out the door. After his initial inspection of the fences in the video, I could only get him out for a quick wee and he ran back indoors.

Oh good, I’m pleased about that. How stupid of them not to realise
They use gloves plus they water down the area before they start to work, so it was more a psychological "take that" than any actual thing they'd notice. Just made my inner five year old happy to have him wee on their darn pile of cobblestones. 😏

Tomorrow I have a doctor's appointment in the morning plus Carbon will need to go for a walk first. So surely they will see us walking through their construction zone. Oh, and then tomorrow night Nadine is coming over to my place - if they've sealed us up again at the end of the day, she'll just push down the fences and liberate me for the weekend. Nothing stops that girl! 😂

They've finished for the weekend now: luckily that means that they also laid the new cobblestones, reconfigured the fencing and gave me a special little gangplank exit. Considering I couldn't even get out last night, it seems overly polite the way they configured it...maybe they realised this morning that I was trapped in yesterday.

I'd decided that I wouldn't even say anything this morning, just be irritatingly cheerful when I went out with the dog and greet the workers with great enthusiasm. And then if they fenced me in again, I figured I'd get out some of my frustration about other aspects of my German life by joyfully kicking down the fencing and stomping all over it. As I've said before, I have hidden violent tendencies. 😏

But no need and my violent plans were for naught because we now have our own little entrance onto the street. Very thoughtfully done of them...

I have your hidden violent tendencies @Emily_Babbelhund! I planned to get expelled from the dreadful boarding school I went to by a) standing on the long dining tables and kicking all the crockery off, or failing that, setting fire to my pillow with the flints in the grounds! Fortunately I didn't have to do this as I was saved at the last moment!
Oh my! You have to continue the story! Did a dashing prince come to your rescue?

Yes, please finish the story Sonia!
Sadly no! My little sister was poorly so it was decided to take her away from the dreaded boarding school and we went to live with two 'maiden ladies' on a bleak common in the Cotswolds. Pump for water in the garden, a spring over the common to go and get drinking water, paraffin lamps, little village school where we wrote on slates with chalks! I was away from home for over three years, saw my Mother once in that time. It was a hundred times better than the boarding school though.
