The sniffiest walk. Followed by the deepest sleep.

We were up at 5am this morning so that we could leave the house at 6am when we’re allowed to go out and walk. Usually we wake up at 6am. But last night I told Snowie that from tomorrow we can go OUT for a walk!! I’m sure he understood cos he was in such a good mood.

It was pitch black outside. Sun only rises at 7.20am. Foggy. No stars in the sky. Set out at 6.10. Dead quiet outside. I thought there would be hordes of people! Made our way in fits and starts down to the beachfront—SO MUCH TO SNIFF!!!!!

On the promenade there were more runners than normal for this time. But not packed at all. 4 or 5 dogs. I was very surprised there weren’t more.

I let Snowie off the leash. Usually I wouldn’t. But there were hardly any cars. And I was sure he’d stick to the promenade because there was Just Too Much To Sniff! He LOVED it!!!l Raced from tree to tree, lamppost to lamppost. Someone said, He’s happy!!

Made the biggest poo, as if he was emptying out 5 weeks worth of lockdown. Thank goodness. Because last night his anal glands were squirting everywhere. Eye-watering when he came to lie next to my side of the bed!

I thought we’d walk for 30 mins on leash. Come home. Then go out at 8.15 for 45 mins on the mountain off leash. But we ended up taking a much longer walk than anticipated and got home at 7.30. I think it would be too much to walk again even though we are restricted to 6-9am only. Hopefully this will do him for the rest of the day. Also, I don’t want to overdo it. He’s looking very tubby! More noticeable when walking ahead of me on his leash. Somehow at home we just eat and eat and don’t notice the kilos piling on!! So, I think he might take strain if we do too much exercise so suddenly after 5 weeks of lockdown.

On our way home we passed the park. He wanted to go in. I relented. Had a good sniff and some high kicks and then munched a lot of grass. I suddenly remembered that it’s illegal at the moment to go into any parks, so I hung around on the pavement while he grazed. Poor boy, probably not feeling 100% with 5 weeks of barely any exercise and a lot of peanut butter licking!

When we got home he went into the pond twice to wallow! And then got the zoomies!!!! What a beautiful way to show just how excited he was to have got out at last!!!!!

Now he’s snoring away. So lovely.

Excited to have his harness on!!!!

Setting off down our road at 6.10am. So dark and so quiet. No one around.

So glad you are allowed out now. Snowie does look really happy 😃. I expect he dreamt of all the wonderful smells he hasn’t smelt for ages. It is a challenge to keep their weight down during lockdown, I know I’ve struggled with myself and a bit with Harley, but am trying to be really strict with what she has (which she’s not happy about).
I hope that your morning walks continue to be enjoyable 😀

Hip hip hooray!! I’m so pleased you were able to go out, and what a lovely write up. Marge Simpson trees made me hoot :D

That was a nice read, he must have been so tired after that and brilliant you can go out again. It looked quite dark though, I hope it is safe for you.

I was a bit worried because a lot of people are hungry and out of jobs, and I’ve heard that a lot of homeless people have moved into our area near the beach. Also, on Monday, Freedom Day, the President released prisoners from jail, and apparently many don’t have homes to go to (from what I’ve read). But it was busy enough on the promenade with other runners and walkers to not be dangerous (it was very dark and gloomy in the fog!). And I think perhaps the number of people who are homeless has been exaggerated by a certain sector of society who believe only they are entitled to use the public space. Notwithstanding, covid-19 has created more hungry and homeless people, and it is sickening the lack of compassion for them.
