So because Mas hasn’t been Unwell for like 3 weeks we of course need to have something wrong 🙄😂

He was walking around in a classroom today when he turned and suddenly proper yelped... he then limped for a few minutes but seemed to walk it off...

Couple of hours later he did the exact same thing!

He’s not limping now and I’ve checked his paws etc but can’t see anything? Maybe a bit sensitive to touch but that’s it?

Any ideas?

Sorry Mas is worrying you again - you need a longer break than three weeks!

No ideas from me but interested in what people's ideas are.

Carbon was in a public WC with me the other day, we were walking out of the stall to the sink and he let out a HUGE painful screech like someone had shot him. I checked him over but couldn't find anything and, like Mas, he limped afterwards. Within two hours he was fine, but definitely had me worried and still puzzled over what it could have been.

The yelp sounds like a sharp spasm, maybe muscular. Personally, I would just see how he is for a couple of days, cut back on any energetic exercise, no ball throwing, chasing etc. Hope it is something of nothing :hug:

Does anyone (@Beanwood ?) know if dogs get shin splints like humans do? Sounds like it could be a similar thing - intense pain, but fairly quick recovery.

Oh god, the first year we had Merlin he hurt himself so often, and we had several unexplained circumstances of shrieking and short-term limping... my nerves were shot. In retrospect I think he was growing fast and rather like a gangly teenager he sometimes just tripped over his own feet or similar. Maybe it is the same sort of thing with Mas?

I really don't know tbh, I am seeing our rehab vet this week so a good question to ask.

Thinking about it, I doubt it. Shin splint pain is more chronic and largely due to human mechanics. For sure dogs can have acute inflammation as @MellowYellow has commented on. Benson also had osteocytes develop around his wrists which caused limping, again more of a dull pain evident after exercising.

I’d have him seen to at the vet. When Snowie yelped, it was a slipped disc. Of course, it could be anything. But two yelps means the pain hasn’t gone away.
