Maybe you could just call the police? Tell them what happened, said you felt uncomfortable and that thinking about it overnight you feel there was something wrong?

I have reported it now , it may be absolutely innocent , but something isn't sitting right xx

It really does sound terribly dodgy, especially with them having two vans, and the dogs brought over on a piece of rope...
