Ticks!!

Do you have to worry about Lyme disease?
I don't think so, not in Scotland. But inevitable here as we walk in the forest every day but I wasn't expecting that many. Daily brushing just to make sure there aren't any lurking on the surface x

How horrible , Helen , must admit I check myself over when I have been in the deer forests , I hate the damned things x
Good idea, it's weird but I have never found a tick on myself even though I walk in t-shirts during the summer and abandon my wellies in warmer weather. David goes out with everything tucked in and covered up yet he gets targeted. I guess they don't fancy me!! xx

Ticks that may cause Lyme disease are found all over the UK, but high-risk areas include grassy and wooded areas in southern England and the Scottish ...

Cut this a bit short ! Its an article on NHS website , and should have said Scottish Highlands x

A friend of mine in the UK got chronic Lyme; it was horrible, she was hospitalised for ten weeks and had to learn to walk again.
I don’t know if the dry winter here has made them worse, but I have to say I am not impressed with the Seresto collars so far. Today, I have removed several ticks from the dogs, and they were all alive. At least with the Advantix the vast majority were dead.
I’ve only ever removed one that had become engorged. I can’t see that continuing at this rate. I’m going to ask my vet if I can use Advantix and Seresto at the same time, because Seresto is allegedly better for the sand flies.

People really should check themselves as well as dogs , after walking in these areas . Lyme`s is really nasty , starts off with flu like symptoms and escalates rapidly , I might be wrong here but I had it in mind that it can be dormant and strike again ?
Just seen your post @snowbunny so yes it can ! x

I spoke too soon, I had to remove a burrowing tick from myself for the first time in my life. It made me feel :puke: Everyone I speak to with dogs up here in Scotland is complaining that ticks are out of control and it's only May. x

Bleurgh. My J had to take the one and only I’ve had (so far) off me the summer before last. It’s a particular type of sharing, isn’t it? :D
He won’t do it himself! It’s quite funny really. He also found a live tick in the bathroom; I asked what he did with it, he said nothing! I had to go kill it. They totally gross him out. Which is understandable because they used to do the same to me, but now I’m like, get over it already!

Oh, this is a bummer to hear. I have to give Carbon Advocate for his heart worm (but it also repels fleas) and thought I had him completely covered for everything including ticks if I used that in combo with Seresto.

I've not seen any ticks at all yet, but that's probably just luck as we're mainly walking in cow/sheep fields now so there have got to be some nasties in there.

Had the most tick-ey walk EVER this afternoon  - I was stopping Kipper every few metres to check him, literally took off over 20 ticks. Beautiful woodland, but we’ll be avoiding it until it’s a lot drier and hotter.

On the upside, Kipper was fantastic at being throughly groomed with a fine-toothed comb when we got home! He did a good deal of ottering with the zoom groom too :giggle:
