Tracker

My friend has an Apple tag on her dog’s collar. Although the only time she used it for tracking was when they flew and the dog had to go in the hold. My friend could track where her dog was and used her phone app to defend her position not to board till her dog was boarded! The crew were trying to get her to board, and she pointed to her phone and said, No, not until my dog is boarded.

A fellow mountain walker used to track his dog with a GPS thing on the collar. His dog would run off on his own and Chris could check where he was so as not to worry. He also kept a stash of treats to keep the dog from not wandering too far! The dog always came back, so he never had to actually track him. It’s been years though, and he no longer bothers with the tracker. The dog still runs off, but eventually comes back!

Red has an Apple Air Tag on her collar which is linked to my phone. It alerts me when she is out of range…..but generally I can see where she is as it’s very flat around here. I would imagine a GPS Tracker is far superior

This just popped up. I have never heard of them before but might be a cheaper easier way

A friend of mine who's a dog walker uses them on all the dogs she walks, including her own and they have proved very useful. No tracker needed for Joy as she doesn't let me out of her sight when we're walking. I think she'd have one on me if she could!

Neo has one, his is a Pawfit. I got it as he got spooked once when he was younger and ran off, thankfully just back to the car. I find it works really well, he doesn’t strictly ‘need’ it anymore as he is more confident now and rarely goes out of sight anyway, but it’s more for my peace of mind. Plus it’s quite interesting to see his stats! Just be aware that you need a subscription with some of them in addition to buying the tracker itself, and if you have iffy mobile coverage in your area they may not work as well.

Bless her, it was other dogs that made Neo bolt too, the Krays in his case (2 yellow labs called Ronnie and Reggie, lovely dogs but a bit much at times)! It was scary but we were lucky there were no roads involved and he went back to the car. Flicka has come so far already, I’m sure her confidence will continue to grow in time.

Flicka bolted today before we even saw the other dogs, she didn't want to get out of the car to have her walk. She had stress diarrhoea all over the back yard when we got home. So sad as she was beginning to get a little better. She was fine down the lane this morning, walked in parallel with a neighbours little dog. One of Malcolm's Labs (the afternoon scary ones) is over the top, just barrels up to her, the other three would be fine eventually, I feel so depressed. To make matters worse, I may have a collapsed sewer in the back yard, heaven knows how much that will cost to mend if it is that!
