Training in Scotland - Charlie

We are in our Scottish house for 9 days so we went for a wet but lovely walk today in the forest and I must say Charlie was a star. He did some running but kept an eye on us returning to me regularly for squeezy cheese. We did lots of 'find' it and 'scatter' games which he loved. I practised A-B lead work also 'catch' treats whilst on lead all to keep his attention. I even got 2 really good 'stop' whistles in. On our way back I wanted to put him back on lead, as he ran towards me he did a lovely long distance 'hand touch' Really proud of him as it was his first time off lead in a totally different environment. Hattie was a star too, but she always is!! They are lying at my feet asleep in the R&T drying coats. Bliss xxx :inlove:

No, not moved yet just spending time here. Hopefullly the big move will be next Easter, fingers crossed! Still things to do in our current house. I will take some photo's tomorrow. Lots of lovely walks to come, beach, lochs, Crinan Canal. You will be sick of my photo's :giggl: xx

We are having a fantastic time, loooovvvvviiiinnnggg Scotland, Today we woke up to a lovely crisp frosty morning, simply beautiful. Cooked breakfast and off we went to the forest. Because there is the 'right ro roam' here we could access the Loch through the forest. We are incredibly lucky as this Loch is a 10 minute beautiful walk from our house and we can view it from our kitchen window, I do have to stand on a stool :giggl: YESSSSS Charlie went straight in swimming and did two lovely water retrieves. He even had a little play with Hattie at the Loch too. Hattie thought better of it and just paddled. I will post the photo's when I get back to Hampshire as uploading is on the slow side. Charlie has been in every stream, puddle and waterfall he can find, running, checking in to make sure we are all there but not going out of sight for more than a minute or less which is a far cry from the 1-2 hours he used to do, albeit a few years ago, but the panic is still etched in my mind! :scared: He is going to be as fit as a butchers dog when we move here with all this swimming. We are so proud of Charlie and his behaviour :) xx

Back in Scotland so updating my training log.

We went on a 2 hour walk today, Charlie is doing really well off lead, he is checking in regularly to C&T, loving every single stream or big puddle he can find, it's lovely seeing him having so much fun.

On a little downside he did have a little deer chase. :( He ran down the side of a steep hill and went out of sight, I clambered up saw the herd of deer running followed by Charlie, I decided to blow my 'recall' whistle as to me this was an emergency. To my surprise he did an immediate left hand turn heading back to me, he didn't hesitate to clamber back up the hill as I called him verbally, he came straight back to me to masses of praise. So although I am disappointed in the chase I am very happy with the end result as this was an extremely exciting situaltion for him. Also went for a walk in the forest when a couple were heading towards us with two Spaniels. David gave Charlie space feeding him treats, no lunging or barking and a relaxed Charlie.

Did one 30 ish meter 'stop' whistle, success as he stopped in a puddle looking straight at me! :giggl:

On our walk back down the hills/mountains we did a lot of C&T on lead heel work on a flat collar all the way back along the Glen. He walked on a loose lead, so again happy with our boy.

:):) xx

That is a fantastic emergency recall. You should be very proud of Charlie. I would do lots of practice now with huge rewards, just to remind him that it really is a fabulous thing. I'm actually grinning from ear to ear for you.
