Tuppy’s teeth

Poor Tuppy - that’s a lot of teeth at once! Echo what @Candy said about not knowing about her dental issues earlier. They do hide it. I brush teeth regularly and last year one just disappeared from one day to the next leaving a bloody hole. It had to have been rotten for a good while, and me in there poking around with the toothbrush and he never showed any signs of pain. These pups are tough! 😳

How did Tuppy go on at the vets @Granca
Very well, thank you - although she was reluctant to open her mouth for the vet to check! We saw the vet who had extracted her teeth on Monday and he was excellent. He showed me the X-rays that he’d taken and talked me through what he had done and why. When he checked Tuppy’s mouth he was delighted with her progress: no sign of soreness or inflammation. He even said that anyone else looking at her would think that the work had been done two weeks ago rather than on Monday.

She will need to be on soft food for a while and kept on her lead so that she doesn’t scavenge and pick up anything hard. When i asked about pain tolerance (she’s not shown any signs of discomfort, even since the op) he said that he thought nature has a wonderful way of dealing with toothache in cats and dogs. They need to hunt and eat to live, so it’s maybe nature’s way of ensuring they can still do that, even if they have dental problems.

We see him again at the end of next week, so she’s being well monitored.
