Updates on Mas.

It sounds like an obstruction is still possible. X-rays were not able to confirm a blockage for us, and we had to go on to an ultrasound. My understanding is that barium can sometimes get things moving again - is this possible for Mas? You might want to ask if an ultrasound would provide any answers for Mas?

Oh boy, what a time you’re having. I’m really sorry. I’m guessing you’re already at the vet? I recommend writing everything down that the vet says, or recording it on your phone, because even under normal circumstances one tends to forget what the vet said. Best of luck. Hoping you get answers very quickly.

Ultrasound is the best diagnostic tool for a query obstruction, giving a much clearer visual field. The barium is just showing that nothing is moving. The U/S should be able to give more detail, and the sooner the better. I would be pushing for it now and not hanging around at this point.
Just awful.....just hang in there if you can :hug:

Just left him. He is doped up to the eyeballs and barely knew we were there. I got a very dopey lick to the face 😔

Basically we still know nothing, either food has caused a blockage but then something has caused that and therefore he has an underlying health concern or something soft is blocking his intestines and in which case it’s surgery and then he should be ok.

What an incredibly dreadful time you’re having. I can only add that there are lots of thoughts and prayers coming from here too. I hope there’s better news of Mas soon.

Everything depends on the mornings X-ray.

If they X-ray shows the barium is still sitting in his stomach then it’s immediate surgery.

If the X-ray shows that the barium has made it through but obviously very slowly then they said three will do something to ‘flush’ him out - they can’t do that until a foreign body has been proved to not be there as obviously forcing it out would be dangerous for him.

He’s stable which is the important thing, no temperature so no signs of infection yet. Heart and lungs still working fine.

Vet has told us it’s unlikely he will be home in the next few days.

I think I’m in shock. I’m oddly detached from it all now. I actually think my brain has just gone ‘ok done now’ and switched off.

I’m sitting downstairs staring at the empty dog beds.

This morning I had two dogs.

You must be in shock Leanne you've had the hardest emotional day. I'm not sure I would have coped as well as you have. Give yourself time. Try to sleep. Mas is in the right place having everything done for him. How are your children @Leanne ? xx:hug:

Children are ok. We have sheltered them from the majority of the stuff about Maslow, the 15yo is up to date but as far as H is concerned he has a bad tummy ache and he’s at the doctors having medicine to make him better.

Both children had a good cry about Leo but because they knew about it in advance it made it easier for them I suspect.

Everything here - go with the feelings, even numbness as that will help just get through. You are doing incredibly, rest as much as you can and keep looking after the basics of eating, drinking and breathing for now. Look after yourselves xxx
