Next update

New vet just rang, this is now the managing vet who is dealing with him. MUCH more explanatory than yesterday’s yet.

He HAS had an ultrasound already 🙄 (apparently they told OH) which revealed that the gas wasn’t moving in his stomach. The ileus is suspected because whilst nothing can actually be seen his stomach just isn’t working - the vet said she had seen it before where they have had an upset stomach which has affectively put the stomach into ‘shock’ and that’s why the food has built up (turns out that’s why your meant to feed tiny meals after a stomach upset of easily digestible food).

Will know more by 11 apparently.

If it’s an ileus they will ‘flush him out’ medically with a solution that will break down the contents of his stomach. If the barium hasn’t moved this morning then it’s surgery.

We all have everything crossed for Mas here. I'm not surprised your OH didn't necessarily process what he'd been told - yesterday was the day from hell for you all.
It sounds as if they have a solid plan. I hope he doesn't need the surgery, but if he does, they'll get it sorted and he'll be back home in no time, with you tearing your hair out wondering how to keep him calm. x

I was awoken at 6 this morning with OH throwing out all of Maslows toys, Nylabones, chews etc.

He was ranting about how it’s laziness to give him chews and we should have played with him more.

He’s just freaking out which is totally understandable so I’m letting him do it for now. I tried to gently explain that Mas needs to chew but then he screeched KONGS at me.

So we are currently a no toy or chew household apart from kongs.

He also has been hoovering since 7am and making lists of how we are going to look after him when he gets home.
Have I ever mentioned my OH doesn’t cope with people being ill very well? 😬

Oh bless him. Yes, I think going along with him for now is probably the least stressful course of action for all of you. It will all settle down once he's home, the worry is over, and you're back in your routine.

We all cope in different ways , to loss and major worry . Some just fold up and go quiet , some cry a lot and others become angry . I do think men cope less well , they cant actually do anything to make it all better , just let him do what he needs to do and make sure you look after yourself too x

Finally some good news!!!!!

X-ray At 9.30 showed that the barium has now passed into the bowel :happyfeet::happyfeet::happyfeet: so there isn’t a foreign body blockage but it is an Ileus - basically he’s had severe gastroentrinitus that has shut his stomach down - so any food he’s had after that has just built up and caused a blockage.

Now he’s been starved for nearly 48 hours his body is breaking it down. They are going to flush him out today with meds and he’s being put on a gastro food that is easily digestible. He can’t come home till he’s had a solid poo but he’s had a rectal exam and she can feel a partially formed poo so she thinks he might be home tomorrow!

He’s coming home on a cocktail of medications but he’s coming home!!!!!
