Vet charging a fee for filling in insurance claim ?

It certainly shocked me . Nelly had an examination and an injection to calm her tummy down , and with the admin fee for Reubens claim, it came to £90 . Its a shame because we do like the Vets and staff at this practice but obviously their charges are being set by the group management . My excess is £80 so its just not worth claiming for the ten I would get back x
Eurgh. I’m sorry Kate, this would really get my goat. If you can be bothered, I’d write a letter to the head of the group that’s taken over to complain and point out the lack of goodwill to loyal customers. If they’ve only recently taken over it might just be an overzealous money-making scheme that they’d rethink if they had customer feedback. Maybe wishful thinking - but you never know?

Actually I can remember seeing something for this very purpose in a "supplement" magazine - a plastic bulb thing you fill with water.
I would rather wait out the olive oil myself
I used to have my ears syringed every six months, narrow ear canals apparently. But my doctor's practice no longer do it. As ear oils don’t actually get rid of the wax just soften it for me the practice nurse suggested I try a different type of wax softener, I think it’s a salt water based stuff, and this does seem to work for me as I haven’t had any trouble with my ears for over 18 months now. I’m not sure what happens if they did need syringing .

Think I will write to the group admin . The takeover was about 18 months ago , prices have steadily risen since then . The charge for insurance is very new , and I think its unfair given the high prices . There is another practice in Liskeard , I really don't want to change having been with mine for over 30 years ( minus our time abroad ) but I`m now considering it , shame x

You can get bicarbonate of soda drops, which help dissolve the wax. I don't have narrow ear canals (well, no one's ever said, and nothing else about me is narrow so I don't suppose so) but I am prone to wax. The advice I had was to put olive oil in at night and bicarb in the morning. It sort of fizzes, it's everso funny!

Perhaps that’s what I’ve got, not salt water drops . I’m sure they fizz, I’ll have to go and find them and have a look.

I wrote a very polite e mail to the group admin , just asking for their comments on paying up front and then having to pay a fee to the Vet team for handling the claim . Although I was cross , I kept it very polite , stressing the good level of care etc .
Sadly they have not replied , which I find very poor customer relations for a very long standing client or any client for that matter ! Then, this morning to add insult to injury , I received an invoice from our Vets, for the handling fee for Reubens claim , the one I paid last week ! I rang them immediately , striving hard to keep calm , they checked and said Oh yes , we can see it was paid when you paid for Nellys treatment , don't worry about it ! I replied that I wasn't worried about it , rather that I was cross to receive an invoice for something I had paid for ! I then asked them to confirm that, having paid for the service , could they confirm that Reubens claim form had been sent off to Tesco , she checked , it was sent on Friday , seven days after I paid for them to deal with it , not a happy bunny at all . If I have to pay them for this " service " the least they can do is to carry it out in a reasonable time frame . Sadly after over 30 years , I am looking at changing Vets xx

Gah, that’s so disappointing Kate; well done for giving them a fair chance, but how miserable they’ve consistently underperformed :( I hope you’ve got options of other vet practices to explore. You never know, they might be better and cheaper...
