Thank you everyone again for your concern. Snowie is totally on the mend. I loooovvve this new vet. So pleased we found him. He’s actually been recommended for ages but he’s a 20-min drive away compared to my regular vet who is 3 min away. And we liked our vet, up till now.
Snowie had a huge blockage where the rectum passes through the pelvis. On the before X-ray the rectum is stretched almost 3x wider than in the after X-ray where it is empty. The vet got the blockage out but there’s still more bone to come. Definitely no surgery needed, but he might need another enema on Wednesday. Tomorrow we go for a follow-up to decide if another enema is needed.
We took Snowie for a walk this afternoon and were so relieved when he squatted and bits actually came out!! No more pain. Three squats. Three little runny bits with some bone fragments. Not proper poos. But whew were we happy!!
We were however not prepared for the LEAKAGE!!!

Eeuw!!
@snowbunny you have my sympathies!! All the stuff they used to flush his bowel is still coming out. Leakage on the floor. All over his bum. While he is sleeping. That faint scent of sewage permeating the air. The vet mentioned it. Provided a blanket to protect the car on the way home. Asked if we had carpets at home. Didn’t cross my mind. Have now spread towels everywhere!! Underpants ready for overnight because he sleeps on our bed!!!!! On our walk, a little black spaniel squinted his eyes after he smelt Snowie’s bum. That’s how I feel all the time!!
The vet was amazing when I collected Snowie. Showed me the X-rays and explained everything. Emailed the X-rays so that I could show my husband. Let me record him speaking because I am so sleep deprived and I knew I’d forget everything to convey to my husband (who couldn’t come cos of work meetings). Gave us a tube of Laxapet and said I must use it all up tonight, greases the gut and the gut contents so it can come out easily. Still have a way to go to use it up! Feed lots of small meals, Snowie must be hungry and want to eat each time. Squirt the Laxapet and feed. This keeps the gut moving. Bought a roast chicken to keep him enthusiastic. He is so exhausted and relaxed so he’s sleeping a lot.
We are just so relieved he’s no longer in pain. And that he’s being managed properly. It’s the reason also why I didn’t want to go back to the 24-hour hospital. Different vet each time. No vested interest in the dog as their patient.
