What are the ACTUAL risks of dogs eating baby bunnies? My vet's in a panic and it seems unwarranted?

Trixie found a nest yesterday morning. We called Animal control to take the one injured baby who survived. They will relay it to the local wildlife reserve. Two died of their injuries, 6 are unharmed in a now fenced-off nest.

We were left to bury the dead. So I put the dead in one of my Grow-bags, and went for soil. Then something dirstracted me, and I forgot....and Trixie found and ate them.

Now my vet's in a panic, going on about Rabies and infection, xray to check for intestinal blockage and tapeworm......but these are healthy 5 day old bunnies.

People feed their pets "pinkies" all the time on purpose....even fully grown, frozen bunnies fur and all. I'm sure they don't panic about blockage every time their dogs eat the fur and bones??

The culprit20230322_192044.jpg I really dont think it's a worst case scenario here. I'm not worried about blockage--she chewed it up good. This kid's been eating animals since her puppy days on the farm. She knows how to eat a carcass. She just hasn't had one since we got all the parasites outta her and domesticated her.

She did not throw up. She's not behaving any differently(except for being sad no one would let her bunny eating mouth near their face for awhile)

So I'm about to go into the vets office for her checkup...and refuse Xrays and half dozen test, because he's in a panic and I'm not. Just a dewormer please. Too early for stool samples. I'll do those in 2 weeks. Can we do Rabies Vacc early, or do we need to wait till July 6?

My dogs have eaten whole dead adult rabbits, head and all found when we have been out on walks, Rourke even ate a very dead Muntjac, took him a few days. I have never had a problem but then we don't have Rabies here. There is a possibility of getting a tapeworm as a rabbit is the intermediate host, so I would worm him.

I grabbed Interceptor Plus.

But I can't recall if I gave her Nexguard, or Nexguard Spectra at the beginning of the month. I've been rotating. So I'm going to give it a week before I deworm in case she's already ON a dewormer
