What’s up with Echo?

Echo’s behaviour has been odd all day yesterday and he’s doing it again today. He keeps asking to go out then sits looking at the fence for ages, even in the rain.He doesn’t move or bark, but he pants. He doesn’t want to come in and, when I do bring him in, he pants and paces. It rained most of the day so he got very wet!

He has eaten all of his meals and his poos are normal. He didn’t sleep all day - he usually has two or three long sleeps. He was exhausted by bed time.

This morning he wouldn’t eat his breakfast until I put it outside (in the rain!)

Might there be a bitch on heat nearby?

Does anyone have experience of this?

We are going away for three weeks on Friday so at least he will get a respite if it is that.

🤔🧐🤨

This is what he does -

That does sound odd. I know Harley has been panting a lot and wants to be outside even when it’s raining. I think this is because it’s quite humid. Echo’s posture does seem like he’s sniffing something and can’t work out what it is, so might be a bitch in heat locally. What is he like when you take him out for a walk?

He certainly looks alert. I'm thinking a bitch on heat too. Has it been very windy in your area @Boogie? If so, the bitch could be miles away.
Yes, rainy and windy.

We've just got back from a long free run and he was fine. His recall is back to normal (phew!)

But he’s still asking to go out 🙄

We‘ve never had this with Zaba, who is also an entire male - he can pass in season bitches off lead without a blink!

I emailed my supervisor and she is as stumped as we are, but she agrees that going to his boarders for three weeks should help break the cycle.

A GR choosing to sit in the rain - unheard of!

He has been quite normal on his walks so far.

That's a bit of a worry isn't it? At least he doesn't sound or look poorly. I would also think bitch on heat. My first dog, Jones the Lurcher would be very restless if there was a bitch on heat anywhere near. The poor boy just didn't know what to do with himself. A bit like a lovelorn teenager!

This is weird because I had a similar thing about a week ago.

Maisy was sniffing at the bottom of the fence and then just sat down next to it in the flower bed (see photo).
There are 2 male dogs next door but she gets on ok with them, mini schnauzers and they love sniffing her bum, but there is no great love there from her. The weather was ok, not raining, not overly hot. She just kept looking at me but I don't know what she wanted. She only did it that once though and has been behaving normally in other ways.

I hope you find out as it is very odd.
