Hello dear forum friends! Before I let Carbón loose again on you, I wanted to apologize for my very long absence.
It started with not feeling the best during my obligatory California visit (nothing new there) and then just kind of snowballed. For some reason (guilt 🫣), I always find it hard to come back after I ‘do a runner’ and then when I do, I wonder why I make it such a big deal.
TLDR: I’m a doof and now I’m back.
So, now for some good news that has to do with an actual Labrador!
After 6 weeks in the US, we were back in Germany for a month, where Carbón had his yearly MOT. He’s been doing SO well this year that honestly I was waiting for some bad news, such as return of his leishmania or kidney issues.
But NO! He came back with 100% normal values across the board! I’m so proud of him. The only thing his vet said was hat he’s too skinny (she always says this), which he admonishes me for at every opportunity.
We left Germany a week ago for Croatia, where I found a rental 5 mins walk to the sea and with a private enclosed garden. I thought he earned it.

Swimmies were had too.

Yesterday we arrived in San Miniato in Italy, about an hour away from Florence. I booked a very utilitarian (ie not charming in the least) flat, but it does have a little fenced garden for Carbón. We’ll use it to visit my friend in Florence via train and also because I have a lot of admin work to do online and just needed a functional place to do it in, so we’re here for two weeks.
Last year I got my German citizenship but this year - because I only spend 6 weeks or so year in Germany - we’re officially getting a ‘divorce’. It will make me a nomad and change my tax base. It is the correct thing and really only option to do legally as I don’t want to live in Germany any more, but after 10+ years residency, it will take quite a bit of that aforementioned admin work to untangle.
Thus our sojourn in a nondescript corner of Tuscany.
BUT Venice is coming the first week in November (because of course it is) and there may be some small-village and beach wanderings somewhere in there too.
Oh, and Carbón will need to tell you the rest. Like about the world dog surfing championships in California.

. Super news about his great MOT, doesn't he look like the cat that got the cream in his lovely rental (sorry for the cat reference Señor, no offence meant).
Great news about Carbon and I am so looking forward to reading about both your travel adventures. xx
