What made you smile today?

A couple of tonnes of firewood for free made me happy this morning! At one of our local monasteries, there are some monstrously large trees (maybe plane trees??) that provide a lovely leafy canopy for a seating area with stone tables and benches. Unfortunately, one of these trees lost a branch a couple of nights ago in some strong wind. Not just any old branch, it's massive! Probably about 15m long and 1m diameter at its widest. It totally destroyed the stone tables underneath it. Happily, no-one was hurt when it fell, as it was night time. Of course, this prompted some pretty hasty trimming of all of the trees, and a notice was posted that anyone was welcome to go and take what they wanted, FOC. It's not been chopped into firewood sized pieces, they obviously just wanted to get the wood on the floor, so many of the branches are still far too long for any trailer or non-commercial vehicle, and the use of chainsaws is prohibited (for non-government peeps) until October because of the fire risk, so we just went and picked up what we could physically get into the van. Happily, we have a 9-seater vehicle so, with the seats out, we were able to get loads of it in several trips, and didn't even make a dent in what was there.
I just need the boys to build my new fireplace, and we're going to be warm and toasty ... once it's seasoned properly. And split, obviously, which we can't do until the autumn. So, probably next spring or winter, we will be lovely and warm :D

My daughter announcing that, at the age of 24, she can no longer listen to Radio 1 as they all just too STUPID :rofl:

(except for Scott Mills and Greg James apparently).
 I still listen to it at 40, but agree Greg James is best by a country mile (although also love Clara Amfo, and Annie Mac’s not bad).
