30 days of Canine Science

I'm quite happy to believe that it's £30 for the "whole thing"; it's pretty basic marketing strategy to make people believe they're getting a huge deal and so more will sign up than if it was being sold at £30 from the start. If they've already written the course material, and aren't going to be actively supporting the individual students (which is the normal model for this sort of thing) then they can afford to price it pretty cheap in order to get the most coverage. With their influence, even under-charging would increase their revenue massively.

And, as you alluded to, one they have your interest, they are able to sell you further courses and products. It's a marketing strategy I find quite distasteful (which is why I left Absolute Dogs', Susan Garret's, and Karolina Westlund's mailing lists) but it's indubitably effective!

For £30 I have some interest in it, just because you never know what extra snippet you're going to pick up along the way - but the thought of the fanbois really puts me off :D

I've had an email from them too. If they'd sent it to me last month I would have signed up but I'm not sure I have much time now.

I have signed up to dog behaviour course on New Skills Academy but haven't got very far with it yet.

Well - I signed up for it!
Fanbois on the FB page aside - it's day 1, and has the potential to be quite interesting.
I've yet to see a demonstration of the science, but it's certainly watchable.

It is fab seeing how motivated @Mr Beanwood is to train our dogs! :inlove: From what I have seen in clips the course is excellent, easy to watch and very slick in presentation.

Hilarious though to watch Marcus trying to lure Casper into a "fold down". Had to walk out the kitchen as my barely restrained giggling was starting to distract him!:rofl:

Your laugh/chuckle is so warm and infectious...well, just as heard on video:rofl:

So - day 1 was 'down', 'drop down' and 'fold down'.

As alluded to by my lovely wife @Beanwood I did have some challenges.....
'Down' was a given as "You're all trainers, so will be using this in your classes already.".:run:

So - let's try this out.

Subject A: Bramble is brilliant at the drop down, after we'd had a few practice goes, and she worked out what I wanted. For the fold down though - nope - bottom goes UP in the air, and she just goes backwards. (Yes I'm sure I can resolve that but it's quite funny)

Subject B: Benson we aren't going to do drop down, as his elbows may be a bit sore. Fold down is no problem though. Model student - top of the class.

Subject C: Casper. Well. Casper is just Casper. Casper would just like the treats please. For the fold down method, with Casper in a stand, I lured from eye level, moving the treat, as if on a rail down towards his back legs. This is supposed to encourage him to collapse his front legs, and the rear fold under nicely. Not Casper. Casper will follow the treat, WITHOUT collapsing, and end up almost doing a head stand as the treat and his nose disappears under his chest....

We have a little more work to do.......

On to day 2 - Luring.........

But what I was laughing at was as Casper's head curled underneath him following the lure hand with the motivation of a zealot, at the same @Mr.beanwood bottom starts going up as HIS hand goes down...just hilarious!
*cough* video? *cough*

I succumbed and paid for the course to see if there are any interesting nuggets in there, but I won't be following along real time as I have too much else on at the moment.

I'm a little behind on my updates - but Day 2 was Low arousal luring.

Well - I was worried. The principle (I think) of low arousal lurig is to establish S.....L...O...W steady movements, with the lure JUST above the victim (Sorry - trainee dog) nose.
Why was I worried. Labradors. Obviously. You think you can put food within a metre f them, and keep your hand ?? Have you met our lot?
Well, OK, they aren't that bad, and I haven't spent enough time practicing yet, but if they see food - they'd like it NOW please.
(This is where I note @Beanwood probably has better 'luck' than I do)

The task was to lure around a cone. Simple huh! Not for Casper. Casper treats cones like a target post - and target posts are like a punch bag - he knocks it over with a paw to make sure you know he's there!!
Imagine trying to lure him around that - we get to the cone - blat! cone goes over...... where's my treat?

Oh this could be a long 30 days!!
