I loved my star chart as a child and never felt it was a punishment. I used to be so excited to get my work books back from my primary school teacher to see if I got a star for my work. My children loved there's too, sticking their stars up for good behaviour or doing little jobs and when it was filled yeah a treat. Personally I don't see it could be punishing. x

We are not always going to succeed in everything we do whether that's winning the race, getting the exam results you thought you were going to get, the job you wanted. I feel there is too much wrapping youngsters up in cotton wool against any kind of failure. It's life, it makes you work harder and become a realistic person. It's the same as the study done on children addicted to getting 'likes' on their face book threads. Getting all anxious about someone not liking their post. So not everybody will like what you say or do. We are encouraging youngsters to become the 'snowflakes' they have been nicknamed. x
