Back in June, we made the decision to not take Sky on our Norfolk camping trip - we ended up having to return to get her as the kennels had said she’d stopped eating - turns out she was pining. She had a couple of days in the tent and managed the beach for a swim but a week would have been too hard for her.
So for our September camping trip, I had a massive task to find somewhere she could cope with. I especially like a sea view and easy reach of the beach and most of our camping holidays have been overlooking the sea. We opted to camp on Mersea Island in Essex - very flat, slightly further than Norfolk but no cliffs or steep slopes. Ten minute walk (her pace) to the beach (so no sea view from the tent but if you walked into the next field you had one!) when the tide was in she could swim. It all worked really well and she surprised us several days by doing quite long walks. You always know if she is happy because she does 360 degree turns of her tail and her face/head takes on a teddy bear appearance. We had a few days where she needed total rest but that was ok as F or I could give Red her needed exercise. She also refused her food a few times and I would have to coax her to eat as her medication goes in her food. Two of our friends happened to be caravanning in Essex and they came and spent a day with us much to Sky’s delight as She loves them. She also spent the whole morning with @Shaz82 and Maisy where we had expected her to only do a bit of that walk.
We visited Frinton on Sea one day and walked up the beach and around the town. We moved at a snail’s pace and I had to put up with quite a few negative comments e.g. ‘that dog is too hot’ to which I said ‘no she’s old and very arthritic, we are moving at her pace’.
All in all an excellent week for her
