Boots.

Got my Dublin boots just now. Was SO excited as I'd already tried on the brown version and just wanted black. Nope. I look like an overstuffed sausage with ugly Wellies on whereas I'd imagined looking chic (?!) and finally able to wear casual dresses with boots and tights. I'm so disappointed. No idea why the black fit (and look) so much differently than the brown. Sigh. Now I have THREE pairs to return. Argh!

I'll take @kateincornwall up on that Mole Valley shopping trip sometime and until then have re-waterproofed my old Lowa's.

The quest continues. And I'll check my car again per @snowbunny 's suggestion. :wasntme:

@Emily_Babbelhund can't you go to the shops and try the different styles on in person? I can't stand online shopping for clothes or shoes as I prefer to go to the shop and try stuff on.
There's not much around here. A lovely Seasalt shop (clothing) in Padstow and one small shoe shop. There are a couple others but they are closed for the season. Also most winter shoes and Wellies are sold out or have only really small or big sizes left as it's past the season. I'm pretty sure the nearest big box/mall type selection is 3,5 hours away in Bristol.

Where Kate lives (about 45 minutes from here) there are a few more options so I'll check 'em out when I next go over. :)

I can't get my head around the distance to shops. I have three large shopping centres within 20mins of my house and many smaller groups of shops too. Perhaps it's because I live in the suburbs of a city?

I'm just fine with no shops down here as it means peace and quiet. Just a bit tricky when you want to whip to the mall and try something on!
Edit to say: that actually there are plenty of little interesting shops in Cornwall (plus farm shops which I really like), just not big places where someone like me who hates clothes shopping can pop in, try on 20 things in 10 minutes and run out again, mission accomplished.

Now we live in the sticks in Scotland if I need any real shopping, furniture, clothes etc. I would have to go to Glasgow which is a four hour round trip in the car! I like the little independent shops in our nearest town. Thank heavens I really dislike shopping! xx

I learnt somewhere --- it might have been on here, I'm not sure, that actually Goretex isn't the best thing for shoes/boots because the foot action causes it to flex and crack.
Ive been wearing Goretex boots since they first came out and haven't had that problem. The only pair that gave me wet feet were Merrell Moabs, well known for leaking around the toes.

When my Moabs started to leak I got a pair of Aku boots from Trekit in Hereford. Nylon outers, Goretex lined, and a very soft slightly padded inner. They've taken a good pounding in the hills of Derbyshire, two weeks on the Cornish coast path, mid Wales and numerous dog walks. Even in this current weather in the muddy forest they've kept my feet dry. I'm very impressed by them.
