Feeding whilst we wait for tooth extration

When Tatze had her tooth out recently she was booked in for her op for the day following finding the crack in her tooth. The bloodwork was done the same day as the op.

I would not put up with such a long wait, it’s not acceptable.
I'm not exactly "putting up"

I've called about 20 vets, booked him into 3, been turned away by 15, who weren't equipped to do the job. Applied for, and been turned down for loans to have the work done by the University, where he could probably have been done faster, but for twice to three times the cost. I'm not done calling around to try and get a better date.

Amazingly, for having a clinic every few blocks, we have a shortage of places equipped to remove the stubborn canine teeth. Were it a simple cleaning, I'd have been able to do it on short notice...but it's not-it's a canine with a slab fracture and most of the vets I call ether can't or won't treat it. I was told they'd have to saw the tooth in half and then dig it out

Yes, Tatze’s was a big double rooted molar, a strong healthy tooth - she had to have five stitches the hole was so big from digging it out.

I’m really sorry to hear that provision is so lacking for Shamas 😢

When I got him, I looked into Pet insurance. I asked around, and the general concensus was that it was a waste of money- just have a savings. So I have about $2000 I can access, but the university quoted me up to 5000.

I pay monthly for a vet plan, to cover all of his shots, bloodwork and wellness stuff. and $50/week into savings for bigger things/meds. If I'd gone with Trupanion, I'd not be in this mess financially...but I'd still be searching for a vet, and I'd still be struggling to find a date with a vet that could do the job

Good news!

the tooth is not infected, but it is a mess. There's been a cancellation, on Thursday so we grabbed it. I'll cancel my shift and reschedule the training that was planned for me.

We came home with Metacam, and some food to soothe his upset stomache.

We drop him off Thursday at 820, and pick him up, I hope, at 5:30...I'll wait around to make sure he goes under safely. Vet knows about Sassy, and my fears...so he's going to take special care, he says

Today's bloodwork will show us if there's any infection in the parts that process the anesthetic...

Thinking of you and hoping that your dear boy will be OK. GGJ and I are on the late shift here (someone has to be!) and off to bed shortly. We're sending you very best wishes and lots of lambies before we go.:thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming:

That Metacam did wonders- Shamas is up this morning and shoving his favorite ball in my lap, AND he ate is breakfast. He looks so much happier. Still cuddly, I found him lengthwise along my body when I woke up (normally he curls at my feet)

Now that the immediate worry is over, I need to call work and let them know about tomorrow's shift. I'm 4-9 tonight, but I prefer to give plenty of advanced warning when dropping a shift.

Shamas behaved beautifully at the vets...I brought a couple of Peanut butter cookies from Timmies, in case there were dogs, and it's good that I had them, as there were two right as we entered, and another reactive dog hiding in the second waiting room(so there went our exit plan) I quickly shuffled Shamas to the right before he had a chance to react (he was just at that point of trying to decide if he needed to) and went over tot he other side of the room, behind the podium that holds a laptop for quick file access. We played LAM and used nearlly all of the cookies up. He was a bit Iffy about letting the vet techs take him for nail trim and bloodwork, so I handed over the cookie and he followed without fuss then.

At one point he reacted to a dog coming OUT of a room, but I shuffled him into a storage area and used the last of my cookie for more LAM. That one was harder for him, because the door to the hiding room was only a few feet away, and he could hear the nervous dogs nails clicking, and probably feel it's energy, then there was the dog in the waiting room, which he was close to. Then, all of a sudden, he realised there was a crate behind him, and he sniffed it and laid down. Looks like my crate training has done some good :)

The vet staff was so taken by Shamas holding his bag of cookie crumbs that they took a video to put on facebook. I wish that I had facebook, to see it
