Just coming to the end of this book and am loving it. The author is a fascinating chap by himself - he's led a varied life and now fronts the UK's top gardening programme 'Gardener's World'. Gardens and gardening punctuate the book, but it is really all about his dogs, and his relationship with them; and particularly about Nigel, his current Golden Retriever who has become a bit of a star in his own right. There's a huge amount of love, affection and deep understanding of his individual dogs in this book plus honest reflections on mistakes and learning. Training comes into it, and behaviour a lot - plus some very poignant and funny moments. Also, chapters are short and there are some lovely dog photos!
