Just coming to the end of this book and am loving it. The author is a fascinating chap by himself - he's led a varied life and now fronts the UK's top gardening programme 'Gardener's World'. Gardens and gardening punctuate the book, but it is really all about his dogs, and his relationship with them; and particularly about Nigel, his current Golden Retriever who has become a bit of a star in his own right. There's a huge amount of love, affection and deep understanding of his individual dogs in this book plus honest reflections on mistakes and learning. Training comes into it, and behaviour a lot - plus some very poignant and funny moments. Also, chapters are short and there are some lovely dog photos!

Yes this was a great read, at least 3 of the family here have read it now. He truly loves his dogs and the photos bring them to life. Some sad moments, and heart in mouth moments... Nigel is treated but Supervet Noel himself ?. A nice sprinkle of gardening and plant prose thrown in too. I often watch Gardener's world just for a few glimpses of Nigel and Maggie (I think it's Maggie? His little sister).

Actually if anyone would like a copy I'd be happy to send mine on.... I rarely re-read a book now and am aware I'm verging into hoarding territory with the amount I've got. Just send me a message.
@kateincornwall if you can cancel your Amazon order you can have mine if you don't mind a 2nd hand copy?
