Muzzle

Hi Swampy, the one I got for Cassie is a Baskerville one but I can't remember the style . Size 7 comes to mind.

I started a thread (back in 2018 !!!) which has some helpful suggestions. I never persevered, we got as far as keeping it on for a couple of minutes I think. The thread is just called "muzzles"

I think we've going to have to his eating weird stuff on walks is going to kill him. He was sick again yesterday. I think the eating is a symptom of his tummy pain which then makes it worse then he's sick again. I need to break the cycle to calm things down

Snowie used to eat human poo on walks. But when we stopped all the tick and flea preventatives, his seizures stopped and he stopped the poo eating. I’m sure there was a link between feeling ill and eating the poo. Best of luck with the muzzle. I hope he can’t suck up food through the gaps!

It's not food he's eating it's plastics foot balls felted fur footballs plants grass etc. He doesn't eat poo either and I don't use any flea prevention unless I have to so it's the blockages I'm worried about. He doesn't eat grass in a nibbling shoots delicate way he grabs mouthfuls and swallows a huge bolas down in gulps the same with things like foot balls. He can destroy one very quickly.

I have an expensive Bumas one for Shadow which is nice and quite lightweight. I like that you can choose the colours so they're less "muzzle"y. We met a couple the other day, and the twins went to say hi, both in their muzzles. I called out that they were fine with humans, just not other dogs, and the lady said she thought he looked really cute in his blue muzzle :D

Willow just has a boring brown basket muzzle from the pet store. It's a size 8, I think, which fits her very well, but would be too slim for a proper shape Labrador! It's firmer plastic and has a double layer at the end (one of which is removable) to prevent scavenging. It cost about €25 and to be honest, is better value for money than the Bumas! Some people put coloured tape around them to make them look less threatening. I'm too lazy for that.

I have seen those and they are brilliant!

Just an aside @snowbunny do you have a nice/fun/playful photo of Shadow in his colourful muzzle I could use? I am planning a facebook educational post/blog about other reasons why dogs are in muzzles" Obviously would give credit to photographer and a plug for your website :inlove:

It really might be worth consulting with a gastro specialist, certainly getting a referral, or even better a veterinary behaviourist. I am suggesting this because there is a possibility that the two are linked... GI issues and eating undigestible objects. The tummy issue could be driving the behaviour of eating non-food items.

We've got an Ancol size 8 which I bought for Coco just to train him to wear it but it's ended up being Meg's for vet visits. It does fit both of them, despite their size difference, just by adjusting the strap. Coco has quite a big, Labradory nose, whereas Meg's is more long and thin. It would definitely stop scavenging of "stuff".

We'd bought a Baskerville Ultra for Meg initially, but it was bought in haste (in an emergency) and didn't fit. It seemed far too short and wide. More of a Staffie shape. We probably got the wrong size.
